Masters next stop for tracksters

Colfax High will send a contingent of athletes to this week's CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Meet set for Thursday and Friday at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento.The Colfax athletes fared well at last week's CIF Div. III championship meet held at Modesto JC. The Colfax girls finished fifth in the team scoring with 38 points while the Falcon boys also had some fine efforts that advanced them to this week's competition.Highlight of the girls efforts was a first place in the 100 meters by sophomore Jaymee Kirby. Kirby, who won the Pioneer Valley League 100 meters a week ago, sped down the track in a winning time in a winning 12.72."I think it's the first time in school history that we've had a section champion in the 100," said Colfax coach Justin Heimann. "Jaymee ran a real strong race."Kirby was also part of the girls 4x100 relay team which used their 50.98 time to finish second behind winning Foothill's 49.8 effort.Joining Kirby on the relay squad were Andrea Severson, Taylor Pitz and Lauren Achen as the Falcons nipped Sierra of Manteca (51.16) and Oakdale (51.65).Andrea Severson also moved on in the two hurdle events as she was fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.32) and third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.08.Tess Severson also advanced by going over the bar at 4-10 in the high jump to finish fourth.On the boys side, Colfax 3200 meter runner Michael Morgan ran a 10:04.80 to finish 5th and move on.Also advancing was senior pole vaulter Justin Goyer who went 13 feet three inches to finish sixth. Goyer's vault gives him the second best in Colfax annals behind school record holder Kasey Burlingham's 15-6 effort.CIF Div.
