School closure will be bad for Meadow Vista

The closing of Placer Hills School in the middle of downtown Meadow Vista will have a major and disastrous effect on the entire community. The heart and center of Meadow Vista has always been Placer Hills School and its beautiful campus. The loss of the school will make a great difference in the economy and lives of every person living in this community.Property values will go down and many jobs will be lost with the closing of Placer Hills School. Good schools are an essential part of the future development of any area. A very great school is being lost. I know this because I have been involved with Placer Hills School since 1950, first as a parent, later as an aide, and now as a volunteer and paid substitute.I cannot believe that the many voters who rejected the recent school bond, for the very small amount of $48 a year, ever thought or realized that they would force the closure of an excellent, important part of Meadow Vista.Every business in town will be affected and impacted by the closing of the school. The jobs lost will cause people to move away, and there will be empty houses. Meadow Vista will be a blighted area - not the beautiful, great-to-live-in place that it is today.I always try to see the positive side of things. I can see nothing positive about the closure of a functioning, vital and excellent school with great teachers, happy students and many parent volunteers.Barbara ChavezMeadow Vista
