Stockman's double lifts Hillgals in extra innings

Junior Hailey Stockman roped a double over the center field fence to give the Placer High softball team a 4-3 victory over El Dorado in a game decided by the international tiebreaker.The game was tied after nine innings of play, setting up the tiebreaker in which each team gets three outs to try and score a runner from second base. Stockman finished 4-for-5 with a triple, a double and three RBIs. Alexis Schredl was 3-for-4 and Tiffany Harrington added an RBI for Placer (3-5 Pioneer Valley League).Brooke Swisley pitched four solid innings before Milissa Scheller came on in relief to get the win, giving up one run in six outstanding innings.Coach Ron Roskelley praised the defensive play of third baseman Kelsey Rohde and outfielders Rachel Linarez, Harrington and Schredl.In junior varsity play, Placer beat El Dorado 8-5 as Shauna Kean struck out 10 in seven innings. Jennifer Sutton, Amanda Bond and Kayal Lee had two hits apiece while Tia Wright, Bond and Lee scored two runs each for Placer (5-3 PVL, 9-5 overall).Lincoln 5, Bear River 3 at Lake of the Pines - The Bruins had their cruise through the Pioneer Valley League disrupted. The loss ended their seven-game PVL winning streak and dropping them into a first-place tie with the Zebras at 7-1. Lincoln freshman Stephanie Tofft held Bear River to six hits and wriggled out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fourth to get the win.Junior Kelly Shepard was 3-for-4 with a triple to lead Bear River (19-3 overall), but the home team struggled in clutch situations."We had opportunities, but we didn't get the timely hits today," Bruins coach Duane Zauner said. "We left 10 runners on base."Britney Ceo pitched six innings for Bear River while Shepard pitched one scoreless inning.
