Baker delivers first sermon Sunday at Assembly of God

The congregation of Auburn's Assembly of God has announced Rev. Robert D. Baker has been chosen to serve as the new pastor of their church. Baker will succeed Van D. Cummings, who recently announced his retirement after leading the congregation since 1987.Baker, 38, attended Whittier Christian High School in Whittier. He attended Bethany University in Santa Cruz and is a graduate of Trinity Life Bible College in Sacramento. He has served as the minister of youth and music at the local Assembly of God for the past 15 years. Prior to accepting a full-time position, he served as part-time youth director while earning a living installing windows.Baker is married to the former Michelle Cummings, whom he met in grammar school. The couple has one son, Clayton, 12, and two daughters, Marcella, 10, and Gabriella, 8. Michelle Baker is involved in the education of young children and presently works for Placer County Department of Education.Baker will deliver his first sermon as pastor of the church this Sunday during the 10:45 a.m. worship service. He plans to share with the church some of the biblical dynamics regarding the many aspects of change.The Assembly of God is located at 4200 Grass Valley Highway, just north of Dry Creek Road.
