Donald ShiffletDonald Shifflet died Nov. 17, 2001 in Sacramento at the age of 86. He was born in Ohio on Feb. 11, 1915.He served in World War II from 1942 to 1946 in central Europe and was awarded the Bronze Battle Star. He was an international representative for the United Auto Workers and retired in 1981. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Dorothy Shifflet; daughters, Shirley Skiera of Michigan, Tobey Baonaker of Fresno; sons, Martin McGuire of San Jose and Tim McGuire of Boulder Creek and three brothers. Services will be private and remembrances in his honor, may be sent to any charity.LaMesa MurchLaMesa Murch died Nov. 14, 2001, at the age of 69 in Bakersfield. She was born June 4, 1932 in Nashoba, Okla. She was a long time resident of the Auburn/Foresthill area. She lived in Bakersfield for the last three months. Mrs. Murch is survived by a daughter, Brenda Fieguth of Bakersfield; brother and sister-in-law Vernon and Verna Busick; sister and brother-in-law Doris and Wilbur Vonecezh; two grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter. Services were held at 10 a.m. Nov. 19 at Chapel of the Hills, 1331 Lincoln Way. Burial followed the service at the Colfax District Cemetery.Wayland WareWayland Ware died Nov. 16, 2001 in Auburn at the age of 86. He was born Jan. 1, 1916 in Bristow, Okla., and lived in Nevada County for 10 years.Mr. Ware retired from McDonald Douglas after 10 years. He enjoyed collecting antiques, working in his yard and watching college basketball.He is survived by his wife Mildred of Grass Valley, sons Gary Ware of Grass Valley and David Ware of Hawaii, brother Otis Ware of Madera, sister Lorraine Dasher of Madera and three grandchildren. Viewing was held Nov. 20 at Auburn Lassila Funeral Chapel. A graveside service is at 10 a.m. today at the Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.Mary Lee TowerMary Lee Tower died Nov. 15, 2001 in Auburn at the age of 92 after battling a long illness. She was born June 20, 1909 in Sheridan, Mont. She had been an Auburn resident since 1990. She graduated from Beaverhead County High School and from Montana State Normal College in Dillon. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from the College of Education in Great Falls and her master?s of education degree from the University of Montana at Missoula. Her teaching career began in Armstead, Mont. in 1928. She moved to Great Falls, Mont., in 1930 and worked as a teacher at Hawthorne School. In 1944, she was appointed principal of Lowell School and worked there for 25 years before becoming principal of Skyline School. She retired in 1973. She was a member of St. Ann Cathedral in Great Falls, Delta Kappa Gamma, Delta Chapter, the Pan American Study Club and the National Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include her two sisters, Polly Bohnert of Auburn and Barbara Conroy of St. Louis, Mo. and numerous nieces and nephews. Her brother William C. Tower of Auburn preceded her in death in 1998.Burial will be in the family plot in Dillon, Mont. Donations can be made to a charity of choice. Chapel of the Hills is handling the arrangements. Leslie Francis GuilleLong-time Placer County resident Leslie Francis Guille died in Auburn on Nov. 17, 2001. He was 77 years old.Born on Sept. 17, 1924, in Guernsey, England, he lived in Placer County for 15 years.Mr. Guille retired from his commercial maintenance business after 17 years on the job. He enjoyed spending time with his family, painting, gardening, reading, traveling and teaching English and French.He is survived by wife Inge; son and spouse Victor and Karen Guille of Sacramento; daughter Margaret Guille of Colfax; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many brothers and sisters in Europe.Friends are invited to attend a memorial mass to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, in St. Dominic?s Catholic Church, 58 East Oak St., in Colfax.Memorial donations may be made to the church.Lassila Funeral Chapel of Auburn is handling arrangements.
