Shields leads Rocklin over Rio Linda

Rocklin High's varsity girls basketball team is 2-2 on the season after winning 55-43 at Rio Linda Tuesday night.The Thunder, who were ahead 32-16 at the half, were led in scoring by senior Emily Shields (17 points). Junior Morgan Smith and sophomore Alyssa Johnson each scored seven for Rocklin while junior Nicole Morency had six points.Rocklin opened the season by going 1-2 at the Lady Warrior Shootout in Galt. This three-day tournament wrapped up Saturday.The Thunder opened the tournament by beating Valley 62-58 before losing to Vista Del Lago (55-52, overtime) and Folsom (36-27).Junior Katie Summers (11 points), Smith (10), Shields (10) and junior Stacy McTaggart (eight) led Rocklin's offense in the loss to Vista Del Lago. McTaggart, Shields and junior Jordyn Wille each scored six points against Folsom.The Thunder's varsity and junior varsity will play in a three-day tournament in Redding that starts Thursday. Rocklin will also play at Whitney at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
