Robert Anthony Emme

Robert Emme died peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, June 3rd after a valiant 16-year struggle with Parkinson¹s disease. He was surrounded by family and attended to with loving care by the staff at Foothill Oaks Convalescent Hospital, and Sienna Care Hospital before that.This last year, Bob celebrated the 50th anniversary of his marriage to Roxanna on June 28th. All six of his children and their families were able to attend: Todd & Linda (Emme) Kodet of Salinas, Ca; Michael & Mary-Jane Emme of Edmonton, Alberta; Jim & Kathy Emme of The Woodlands, Texas; Tom & Robyn Emme of Granite Bay; Kelly & Christine (Emme) Keenan of Cool; and John Emme of Newport Beach, Ca. Bob was born in Los Angeles, California, on July 31, 1930 to Paul and Margaret Emme. He was preceeded in death by his brother Bill who died in 2002, and his brother Jack who died during the invasion of Normandy Beach during World War II.Bob graduated from Santa Clara University, magna cum laude in 1952 , and retained a love of learning and the English language all his life. Robert and Roxanna married in 1952, moving shortly thereafter to Oklahoma where Bob proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After the war ended, the growing Emme family headed back to California where Bob worked during the day, went to school at night, and earned his license as a Certified Public Accountant. One of the parts of his long career that he enjoyed the most was working for 20 years as the business manager for James Arness, the actor who played "Matt Dillon", on the long running TV series, Gunsmoke. He never knew who was going to walk throught the door during his days at CBS studios.Retirement brought Bob and Roxanna to Auburn, California, where their home became a hub for all sorts of family activities involving his children, their spouses and grandchildren. He called them "my people." His grandchildren, Corie, Anna & Amy Kodet, Paul & Monica Emme, Chris & Dave Emme, Rachel & Megan Emme, and Alanna & Conor Keenan brought him great joy.Robert Anthony Emme will be remembered as a man of strength and integrity with a quirky sense of humor, even to the end. He will be remembered as a man who showed his love of God, "his people", and his country through his actions. We will miss his love and quiet presence.Mass of the Ressurection will be celebrated on Thursday, June 12 at 5 p.m. at St. Teresa de Avila Catholic Church, 11600 Atwood Road, Auburn.
