William Boardman

William Dorr Boardman, a resident of Dorset, Vt., died Jan. 13, 2004 in Bennington, Vt. at the age of 91.Mr. Boardman was born April 4, 1912 in Auburn, N.Y. the son of the late Gerald D. and Elizabeth (Devens) Boardman. Mr. Boardman graduated from Harvard in 1935. He was a member of the Porcelian Club.Mr. Boardman served his country during World War II from 1942 to 1945 in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Enterprise at the rank of Lt. Commander. Following war service, he married Elizabeth Blair in 1947 in Ligonier, Pa. Mrs. Boardman died on Sept. 12, 1966 in Bennington, Vt.While residing in Ligonier, he was involved in the establishment and management of Laurel Valley Ski Slopes. In 1960, the Boardmans moved to Manchester, Vt. and operated the Orvis Inn until 1967. From 1967 to 1991, Mr. Boardman lived in Olympic Valley, Calif. He became assistant to the general manager and director of public relations and marketing for the Squaw Valley Ski Corporations in Olympic Valley. He retired to Dorset, Vt. in 1991.He is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Elizabeth Devens and Richard Ludlam of Dorset, Vt. and Patricia Boardman and Daniel Edwards of Auburn; three grandchildren, Brian David Ludlam of Liverpool, N.Y. and Blair Boardman Edwards and Brynne Christine Edwards both of Auburn; nieces, nephews and cousins; and friend and caregiver Ellen Fograshy of Middletown Springs, Vt. Funeral services were held Jan. 17 at St. John?s Episcopal Church, 705 Hale St., Beverly Farms, Mass.
