Auburn bank robber linked to second heist

Journal Staff WriterThe woman suspected of robbing the U.S. Bank on High Street Monday may have been involved in another robbery just days earlier.Det. Mike Garlock, of the Auburn Police Department, said Friday a U.S. Bank in Eureka, Calif., was robbed May 12 by a woman who looks like the Auburn thief whose image was caught on surveillance tape. Shortly after 3 p.m. last Monday, a woman walked into the U.S. Bank on High Street and left with an undisclosed amount of money. Only five days earlier in Eureka a woman also walked into a U.S. Bank and robbed it.In both cases, the thief presented a teller with a note, kept the note and walked out with an undisclosed amount of cash.The physical descriptions of the robbers are the same, however, in Eureka police said the thief was wearing glasses and a light-blue shirt.Officials believe they are dealing with a serial bank robber.?Based on the physical description, the note and the type of robbery, it?s the same person,? Garlock said. ?In my opinion, she?ll do it again.?At the time of the robbery, police did not know if the Auburn robber took off on foot or left in a vehicle. Eureka officials said no vehicle was seen there and it is possible the suspect left on foot.Anyone who has information is asked to call Det. Garlock at 823-4237.
