Vernon Reynolds, Roots lead Folsom

Gianni Vernon Reynolds and Rachel Roots had Folsom High's track and field varsity team's top finishes at the Granite Bay Invitational on Saturday.Vernon Reynolds won the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet, 5 inches, while Roots won the long jump with a distance of 16'11.Vernon Reynolds also placed fourth in the long jump at 20'4 and ran on the two relay teams which placed. The 1,600-meter relay team of Vernon Reynolds, Clay Daly, Jeff Carlson and Steve Roy placed third in 3 minutes, 40 seconds, while the 4x100-relay team of Vernon-Reynolds, Matt Baudendistel, Kelvin Warren and Mike Starr finished fifth in 45.12.Roots also placed seventh in the 400 meters in 1:03.32 and ran on the third-place 4x100-relay team along with Sarah Hockensmith, Lani Fontillas and Juliette Casillas (52.03). Roots also ran on the 4x400-relay team with Madi Bell, Christina Maguire and Morgan Pugh, as the foursome took third in 4:29.Maria Malone finished second in the 1,600 meters in 5:15 and was third in the 800 in 2:29. Fontillas finished third in the long jump (15'2), while Hockensmith placed third in the triple jump (32'0) and fifth in the long jump (14'10).Folsom also had another jumper place, as Nico Legarda finished fourth in the triple jump in 39'8.Jeff Carlson placed seventh in the pole vault by clearing 12'0, while Morgan Pugh ended up seventh in the 1,600 in 5:23.Tyler Trosin led the freshman-sophomore team, as he won the 200 meters in a meet record 23.66. Trosin also won the long jump (18'10), 100 meters (11.58) and ran on the winning 4x400-meter relay team with Derek Woodard, Tyler Mathis and Pat Cruse (3:41.6). Cruse also won the 800 meters in 2:11.86.The freshman-sophomore boys took second as a team.For the girls, Jenna Crouch took second in the high jump by clearing the bar at 4'10. Sarah London placed second in the long jump (13'10) and was third in the triple jump (29'10).
