Palmer helps South All-Stars to win

While Folsom High's boys basketball season ended weeks ago, for guard Ben Palmer, he still had one more game to play.Palmer, a senior guard, played in the Optimist All-Star Basketball Game at Center High on Saturday, helping the South All-Stars to a 105-76 win over the North team. Palmer scored five points in about 15 minutes of playing time.These games are obviously a lot different, Palmer said. Everyone is a ball hog, which is to be expected, but it's still a lot of fun to play with the best players in the area. It was a great experience.The Optimist All-Star game is for the Sacramento areas top seniors. Palmer was one of Folsom's top performers, as he averaged 16 points a game in helping the Bulldogs to a 24-8 record, which included a Sac-Joaquin Division I Championship.Palmer is an excellent perimeter shooter, but scored his points Saturday on a tip and an and-one opportunity following a drive to the basket. I missed two threes, but I got some rebounds and made some steals, Palmer said.Palmer is now competing on the Folsom High track and field team, as he decides what his future plans entail. He plans to pick a school to attend by the end of the month and also plans to decide whether he plans to play basketball or not.
