Casino job applications being taken

A total of 1,750 jobs will open in Shingle Springs in coming months at the Red Hawk Casino, now under construction near U.S. Highway 50 east of town.The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians started taking job applications early this month via the Internet.The coming gaming facility formerly was known as the Foothill Oaks Casino.Applications for employment at the casino are being accepted through an online system at the www.redhawkcasino.com Internet address, the tribe announced."We are reaching out to Tribal Members and residents of the local community who are looking for employment and want to be part of a great service team," said Scott Holmes, chairman of the Shingle Springs Tribal Gaming Authority. "Our employees will enjoy competitive compensation packages, beautiful surroundings and a work environment that's based on mutual respect."At the Internet address, applicants will be asked to set up a user account with user name and password. On July 1, a temporary employment and training center for the general public is scheduled to open at 1117 Windfield Way, El Dorado Hills. Computers will be available to complete an online application. Staff members will assist with the application process. The center will house free classes in dealing card games such as blackjack and baccarat. Those interested in the training classes will be able to apply through the online application system.The casino is scheduled to open late this year. During a pre-opening phase, jobs will be posted on the Web site approximately three to four months prior to the date employees will be hired for a particular job. Applicants may return to the Web site regularly to check on current job openings. Applicants without home Internet access can find computers available at local libraries and at Placerville's One Stop Career Center run by the state Employment Development Department.The tribe announced it has filled its top spot, general manager, and will move next to fill positions at the vice president, director and manager levels.Peter Fordham is named general manager.
