Team Coon Creek starts season with a bang

Team Coon Creek's Scholastic Clay Target Program for grades K-12 has begun. There are three local teams within the region. Woodcreek High School, Del Oro High School and Team Coon Creek, all shooting out of Coon Creek Trap and Skeet Club in Lincoln, are part of the more than 10,000 youth trap shooters throughout the United States who participate in the program, overseen by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. California has more than 800 students participating. The state finals are June 21, in Kingsburg, with the National Championships held August 3-4 in Sparta, Ill. Last year, Team Coon Creek's Intermediate team placed second at the state finals and finished in the top 20 in the nation. Once again, Team Coon Creek is proving to be team that intimidates when they take the line.The SCTP league has two tournaments under their belts. Team Coon Creek's Michael Flores won first place with a 100 straight while Billy Slane took second place with a 97 in the Intermediate Advanced division. Drake Llamas placed second in the Senior JV division with a 94 in first tournament of the season hosted by the Los Banos Gun Club on April 5. Team Coon Creek increased their medal winning again last weekend with another first place by Billy Slane with a 99 in the Intermediate Division. Team Coon Creek will be hosting their tournament on Saturday, April 26, beginning at 9 a.m. More than 300 shooters will be participating throughout the day.
