Roger Dale Tovey 9/1/1935 - 2/23/2019

Roger Dale Tovey, age 83, of Roseville, California, passed away Saturday, February 23rd, 2018. He was born on September 1, 1935 in Malad, Idaho, the fifth of six children born to Gwenfred E. and Morgan W. Tovey. Roger was raised in Malad where he divided his time between academics, athletics and work on the family ranch. Roger earned All-State Football Honors during High School. Roger attended the University of Idaho where he served in student government. He graduated with a BA in History and in 1958 earned an MA in Education. While at school in Moscow, Idaho he met his wife of 60 years, Colleen Marie Sullivan. After graduation, Roger joined Colleen in the San Francisco Bay Area. They married on November 9, 1958. Roger began his long career in education teaching science at Charlotte Wood Junior HS in Danville, CA. He then taught history at San Ramon Valley HS before becoming Vice Principal at Monte Vista HS. Roger spent the majority of his career as an Elementary School Principal, first at Green Valley Elementary in Danville then opening Montevideo Elementary School in San Ramon. After nearly 40 years of service to the community, his students and staff, Roger retired in 1994. Throughout his life Roger participated in all types of sports. He was an avid runner, skier, tennis player and golfer. After retiring he and Colleen and moved to Sun City in Roseville, CA where they spent many happy days on the golf course. They both also enjoyed having time to travel extensively with their friends. Roger had a real love of music and joined the Sun City Singers where he participated in many outstanding musical performances. Roger's upbringing on the ranch remained evident in the beautiful, produce-filled gardens he created and maintained. Roger is survived by his loving wife, Colleen Sullivan Tovey of Roseville, his daughter, Joan Tovey Korngut of Mill Valley, California, his son, Paul (Heather) of Durham, California. One grandson, Ryan (Annie) of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Three granddaughters; Amber of Hillsboro, Oregon, Alexandra Korngut of Los Angeles, California and Elise Korngut of Seattle, Washington.
