Loomis Art Loop showcases variety of local artistry

In just about a mile radius, a concentration of artistic styles and diverse mediums will be on display during the 16th annual Loomis Art Loop Tour this Mother's Day Weekend. Nineteen artists will take part in the tour, which includes three homes in Loomis and another in Penryn. Participating artist Sandy Delahanty juxtaposed the Loomis Art Tour with traditional studio art tours. Whereas the Loomis Art Tour is more intimate in nature, traditional tours might have so many art studios that visitors spend most of their time in their cars. "When our small group of artists created The Loomis Art Loop Art Studio Tour 16 years ago, we devised a different kind of tour, a more-art-and-less-driving tour," Delahanty said. "We limit our number of studios to four and group a total of 19 artists in those four locations. Our visitors enjoy having the time to visit with each of us, check our studios, ask questions, watch us demonstrate our techniques and often find a treasure to take home with them." Brenda Dominguez, one of the original group members, likes presenting artists' work in a different light and connecting with those aspiring to make art themselves. "It's a real good feeling," Dominguez said. "There are so many different kinds of art. People come to see what it's about and it opens a lot of eyes. There are some people who have started to work on their own art but don't necessarily know how to finish it or show it. It inspires them. We've had people come back the next year and tell us how they are doing and what they are working on." Sean Bonito, a guest artist who specializes in graphite pencil and digital painting, spoke about the Loomis Art Loop's value. "I am grateful that I was chosen to be a guest artist with the Loomis Art Loop," Bonito said. "I have been given the opportunity to collaborate with other local artists and establish ties that go beyond the loop. Also, I have the opportunity to meet with the public to discuss my work and often have been given valuable input about my work." Dominguez said a majority of the artwork displayed is for sale from a few dollars to a few thousand dollars. The free Loomis Art Loop will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
