Pericin, Lubiens named top Del Oro athletes

Dante Pericin and Mary Lubiens, both versatile performers and leaders on their respective Del Oro athletic teams this past school year, have been selected as Del Oro's Outstanding Senior Athletes for 2018–19. Pericin was a standout for the Golden Eagle football and basketball teams while Lubiens had strong performances for Del Oro's girls water polo and wrestling squads. In football, Pericin, an All-Sierra Foothill League performer, was one of the team's top tacklers for the Golden Eagles, who posted a record of 13-2 and reached a CIF State championship bowl game. Pericin intercepted four passes last season and also played quarterback on offense. Pericin was also a basketball standout. Despite coming out late because of the extended football season, he averaged just a shade under 10 points a game along with being one of the team's top defenders. In girls water polo this past season, Lubiens earned All-SFL honors and was one of the Lady Eagles' top scorers in helping the team reach the semifinal round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. Lubiens was also a wrestling standout for the Lady Eagles as she won the Sac-Joaquin North Section championship and qualified for the CIF state meet where she posted a record of 2-2.
