Folsom American 9-10 All-Stars handle Cosumnes River, 16-5

A day after losing a heartbreaker to Ponderosa, 3-2, the Folsom American League 9-10 All-Stars defeated Cosumnes River, 16-5, Tuesday night at Richards Field in Roseville. Folsom American advances in the loser's bracket, as their next game is at 7:30 p.m. Friday night against either El Dorado Hills or Lakeside. Folsom American sent 12 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning, scoring eight runs to take a commanding lead. Cosumnes River never got closer than five runs to the lead. The first six batters reached base with only one out being recorded on the base paths. Preston Martin (two hits, two RBI) walked and Carter Penbera followed with his first of four singles. After Penbera was forced at second on a fielder's choice by Simon Saulie-Rohman, Jace Elmore doubled to drive in two runs, his first of two doubles in the game. Another run scored on an error before a RBI single by Jake Colangelo. Martin had another RBI single in the inning, while three other runs scored on wild pitches. Cosumnes River touched Folsom American pitcher Saulie-Rohman for two runs in the first and another in the third, but never threatened the lead. Folsom American scored three times in the fourth inning; twice on bases loaded walks by Jacoby More and Kaden Palmer with another run scoring on a single by Travis Miller, as Folsom American increased its lead to 11-3. Five more runs came in the top of the fifth to bring into play the 10-run mercy rule. The first four runs came in on Cosumnes River errors, while Martin drove in the final run with a single. Cosumnes River touched relief pitcher Palmer, who came in to start the fourth inning, with two runs in the fifth inning on a pair of double steals, but Folsom American held on to win the game in five innings, 16-5. "Our pitchers were strong attacking the zone, and I don't think they walked anyone," Folsom American Manager Mike Penbera said. "Offensively, we put the ball in play and executed when we put runners in motion and it paid off. We played fundamental baseball." Penbera feels his team has a good chance to keep winning. "We had a tough one-run loss in our first game," Penbera said. "I think we have a good chance to make it out of the bottom half of this bracket."
