Placer County Association of REALTORS (PCAR) partners with Salt Mine and Salvation Army for canned food drive

The Placer County Association of REALTORS Affiliate Committee is hosting a canned food drive to help meet the increased need for food and resources for local charities. Benefitting both The Salt Mine and the local branch of the Salvation Army, the following items are greatly needed: * canned fruit and vegetables * canned chicken and tuna * canned soups and stews * canned beans and meals * pasta and pasta sauce * bags of rice and beans * peanut butter and jelly * cereal and oatmeal * Top Ramen * macaroni and cheese. According to national hunger organization Feeding America, Placer County's food insecurity numbers have increased in recent years to more than 38,710 people, with almost 13,000 of these community members being children. These numbers are particularly concerning during the summer when many local food pantries find their shelves in need of refilling at the same time that those in need increase. In particular, children and families who utilize free or reduced cost meals during the school year do not have access to these resources during the summer. "Food insecurity is a major issue that continues to challenge many in our community, with the most affected segment being single mothers, their children and the elderly," said Dayna Summers, Placer County Association of REALTORS president. "Unfortunately the resources that our local organizations rely on to support those in need tend to dwindle in the summer months. People go on vacation or are not as focused on charitable causes as they are during the holiday season. Hence, why it is so important for PCAR to continue to host this annual drive in the summer months." Placer County Association of REALTORS encourages community members to join with their REALTOR and affiliate members to participate in this much needed food drive.
