Lincoln Hills Potpourri Troupe entertains Lincoln seniors

The Potpourri Troupe visited Summerset Senior Living in Lincoln as a part of the group's south Placer area assisted-living tour last Friday. The group currently consists of 64 performers, all Sun City Lincoln Hills residents and all 65 years old or older. The group, celebrating its one-year anniversary this Friday, has performed 14 shows so far. "We have a lot of talented friends and we wanted to get them together and offer a show to people," Potpourri Troupe co-organizer Wendy-Jean Iannico said. "We were all entertainers before this and to do it again and be able to give back to our community is great." The troupe has 10 acts between five and eight minutes long, which usually keeps the show just under an hour. Last Friday's show featured several dancing and singing acts and also poet Jeanie Robertson, who puts her day-to-day trials to poem and her husband, Chuck Robertson, acting out some of her poems. Robertson recited "Blue Shoes" about taking the wrong shoes with her on a trip and "The Perfect Shade" in which her husband acts out the mishaps of Robertson trying to get the proper hair dye. The show also featured well-known Lincoln singer/guitarist Mike Sisemore, who played the Bob Seger classic "Old Time Rock 'n' Roll." "The best part of this, I think, is watching the audience connect with the music or dance and really get into and start moving," said Potpourri Troupe performer Terry Naylor. "It's just great to watch." The audience was very involved at this show, singing and clapping to the performances. "I thought they were marvelous and they all did a fantastic job," said two-year Summerset resident Margret Hays. "I would certainly come to another show." The show is all volunteer-based and the troupe performs once or twice a month with no group rehearsals before the show. "We are doing this show to show people that you don't have to give up on life because of your age," Potpourri Troupe co-organizer Corrine Ehlers said. The Troupe's next appearance will be at Eskaton in Roseville next month.
