Dutch Flat unites railroad founders' decendents

A celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Golden Spike will take place at the Dutch Flat Hotel and Golden Drift Museum Aug. 3. Descendants of Central Pacific Railroad founders, Theodore D. Judah and Daniel Webster " Doc" Strong will be guests of Dutch Flat Saturday during Placer County Heritage Trail Museums Tour. Their ancestors forged a partnership that arguably changed the course of American history. Judah and Strong will meet for the first time and will be available to speak to visitors about their ancestors' historic partnership. Also during the event, members of the Chinese American Pioneer History Committee will be presenting exhibits and a video illustrating the contributions of the Chinese in building the railway and the route over the Sierra developed by Strong and Judah. At 10 a.m. docent, Jim Ricker, will lead a tour of historic Dutch Flat, starting at the museum. At 11:30 a.m. docent, Debby McClatchy, will provide an informative tour of the Dutch Flat Cemetery. The hotel will be open 1:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the museum will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for tours and presentations. Refreshments, provided by volunteers, will be available throughout the day.
