2019 Loomis Eggplant Festival unveils official logo

While the Loomis Eggplant Festival is still nearly two months away, the unveiling of the annual event's official logo underscores the enthusiasm and excitement from event organizers. Jake Wilson of Newcastle designed the winning submission for the Oct. 5 festival sponsored by the Loomis Basin Chamber of Commerce. "Each year, a different design that conveys the fun and excitement of the upcoming Loomis Eggplant Festival is selected by the festival committee. Jake Wilson's logo for our 2019 Festival fits the bill," said Jenny Knisley, Loomis Basin Chamber of Chamber executive director. Wilson earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Sacramento State University but his education in the arts began as a child in rural Virginia, according to a Chamber of Commerce press release. Starting in grade school, Wilson spent much of his time in art rooms and said "my passion was drawing and painting what I saw around me in life." After high school, he trained in commercial art and eventually moved to Northern California where he received his fine arts bachelor's degree. Through his art commissions and by entering design competitions such as the one for the Loomis Eggplant Festival logo, Wilson said, he hopes to share his "doodles and sketches from life" with as many people as possible. The winning artist receives a $100 cash prize and will be granted free booth space during next year's festival, a T-shirt, coffee mug, wall poster and special recognition at several Loomis chamber events. Founded in 1988, the Eggplant Festival has evolved into the premier Loomis event that defines the town's community spirit of family-friendliness, according to the press release.
