Women golfers donate $17,108 to breast cancer research

Once again, the Sun City Lincoln Hills Lincsters Ladies Golf Club took a swing at breast cancer during this month's Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On Oct 23, the club hosted its annual golf tournament and raised more than $17,108. The annual fundraising tournament was started in 2006 with proceeds going to nonprofit breast cancer organizations. Club members donated all the proceeds to the Placer Breast Cancer Foundation, which funds research programs at UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. "We're very very appreciative of the donations every year and we use the money for research," said Cindy Picos, Placer Breast Cancer Foundation secretary. "We go through UC Davis for all the programs that we fund to find a cure." Placer Breast Cancer Foundation "has been a longtime favorite charity" of the Lincsters," said Jan Varin, the Lincsters Ladies Golf Club's tournament finance chairwoman. This year's tournament was organized by Ingela Butters. "One could say it was an ordinary day on the Lincoln Hills Golf Course but what Ingela accomplished was extraordinary," Varin said. "The tournament drew 132 players playing both the front and back nine of the course. A delicious tri-tip and chicken lunch was served by Code 3 Catering in the festive tent." The Oct. 23 tournament players were members from the Lincsters Ladies Golf Club and the Lincoln Hills ladies XVIII golf group. "All of the funds, not some of the funds raised (Oct. 23) go directly to Placer Breast Cancer Foundation," Butters said. "The cost to put on the tournament come out of the registration fee for the golf tournament and some in-kind donations from our Lincster members." The clubs alternate hosting this annual tournament to benefit breast cancer organizations. The Placer Breast Cancer Foundation also holds fundraisers. Its next fundraiser will be the "Orange is the new Pink Walk for Breast Cancer" on Dec. 8 at Mandarin Hill Orchards in Penryn. The Placer Breast Cancer Foundation also accepts donations year round.
