FFD secures large hydrant leak

After a truck struck a fire hydrant, releasing thousands of gallons of water onto Prairie City Road Monday morning, Dec. 16, the Folsom Fire Department was able to secure the leak. Folsom Fire Division Chief Chad Wilson said the truck was making a delivery to Folsom High School around 7 a.m. at the Prairie City Road entrance when it inadvertently hit the hydrant. The truck sheered the hydrant off and water began shooting up as well as running down the entrance and exit onto Prairie City Road, he said. Thousands of gallons of water were lost per minute, for an hour, as Wilson said this specific valve was very difficult to shut off. With the assistance of the Folsom Environmental and Water Resources Department and Folsom Cordova Unified School District, firefighters were able to secure the leak, he said. Wilson said school was not disturbed by this leak. No further information has been released at this time.
