Three Folsom football players sign letters of intent

Three Folsom High football players signed letters of intent on Wednesday at a signing ceremony at the school. Receiver CJ Hutton signed with UC Davis, which was known prior to the signing. The other two student-athletes revealed the school they would attend at the ceremony. Linebacker Davion Blackwell announced he will attend the University of Nevada Reno, while safety Cameron Broussard is headed to Sacramento State. Folsom High football coach Paul Doherty emceed the ceremonies and said was proud of his players. "This is a huge deal to me, because one of the biggest things to me is continuing your education," Doherty said. "You can talk about wins and league championships and all the things we do on the football field, but I want to celebrate you continuing your education." Hutton was a three-year varsity player at Folsom High who scored 35 touchdowns in 44 varsity games. He gained 3,178 all-purpose yards in those games, 2,130 through the air on 119 catches and 25 touchdowns. "It's incredible to hear how complimentary coaches are when they talk about CJ," Doherty said. "The first thing we do at the all-league meetings is vote for Player of the Year and you can't vote for your own player. Every coach in the SFL voted for CJ; he was a unanimous selection. I think that says a lot about CJ." Hutton thanked the crowd of family, friends, teammates and coaches for coming to support him and his two teammates, and also personally thanked his mom and dad and his coaches. Doherty said he first noticed Blackwell in the weight room, as his effort and focus was commendable. His work there helped him become the player he was this past season for the Bulldogs, when as the team's strong side outside linebacker finished tied for fifth on the team in tackles and was first in passes defended, not to mention being an all-league performer. Blackwell thanked his mom, saying he wouldn't have done anything without her support, and also thanked God because without him, he said, you can't do anything. Broussard came to Folsom this season as a transfer student and had to sit out the team's first five games. Despite the time missed, he still made a big impact on the team. Broussard, who's being recruited as a safety, made one interception and 12 tackles on defense, but also caught 17 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns on offense. "As a transfer student, Cam showed up eager and brought some fresh energy to the team," Doherty said. "He put the work in and got better every day. For him to come in as a transfer, sit out five games and play offense for us and contribute like he did, most kids can't do that. Cameron made it happen, and I'm super proud of him." Broussard thanked his mom for always being in his corner, his family, and then thanked all of his coaches who made him the player he is today.
