Weed abatement helps to prevent residential fires

In response to the letter written by Ginger Barrett, July 15, in which she lashed out at my letter concerning the lack of action by the fire department on weed abatement (July 10).Are you for real? It appears to me that you must have moved to Meadow Vista from Rio Linda where every simple thing has to be explained twice or more.1. I have had to contact the fire department each year for the last four years.2. There is a weed abatement ordinance (similar to a law for your information) in the City of Auburn to help prevent fires near residences.3. I first contacted the fire department on May 21, long before there were any forest fires, and they were busy fighting any fires.4. I did not expect the fire department personnel to mow the weeds. Once again, Ginger, there is an ordinance on weed abatement where the owner must abate the weeds or the City of Auburn will have someone mow them.5. I own a lot and clear the weeds and brush each year before they have a chance to be a fire danger. Thus have gotten off my so-called lazy duff to do my part in preventing a wild fire.It appears to me that a reading class and comprehension class may be necessary before your next criticism of someone else's article.Gerald Del AgostinoAuburn
