Laura Ann Newman Sciarrino 3/29/1963 – 2/1/2020 Laura Ann Newman Sciarrino of Auburn, CA died unexpectedly from complications due to Sepsis and Pneumonia on February 1, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Folsom CA. Laura was just 56 years old. The attributes that defined this woman were many, but what stand out to those who knew her, both personally and professionally was her loyalty, her honesty, her integrity and her devotion to those close to her. While she suffered no fools, she was compassionate and caring to those who were not as lucky or as fortunate as she. A close friend described her as such; "We'll always think of Laura as a kind, principled, loving, realistic, devoted, gracious and fine person. Her attitude and approach to life was admirable and inspirational. The world was a better place with her in it." Truer words could not be spoken about this wonderful woman. "Laura's Boys" meant everything to her, and as her husband, I qualify as being one of the boys. She was my love, my confidant and my friend, and she always will be. But she meant even more to her sons, as while she was their greatest cheerleader, she was also a moral beacon of integrity and honesty that will always resonate throughout their lives, and mine. We will always be Laura's Boys. Laura was born March 29, 1963 in Niagara Falls, NY to Daniel and Faye Newman. After her parents divorced, Faye remarried when Laura was nine years old. Thus began a lifelong relationship with her new "Dad", Burt Margolis. Laura remained close to Burt and Faye for the rest of her life. Laura graduated with honors from UC San Diego in 1985, where she also studied abroad in France and Switzerland. Returning home, Laura was accepted into the University of San Francisco Law School, where she graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1990. She was admitted into the California State Bar that same year. At the beginning of her career, Laura worked as a Trademark Attorney for several law firms, before moving on as in house Director of Trademarks for Elan Pharmaceutical in 1999. This began a shift in direction from Trademark work to regulatory and clinical pharmaceutical legal work. In 2003, Laura became Vice President of Legal – Therapeutic Markets for Elan. In 2005, she then became Vice President for Commercial Products for CV Therapeutics and in 2009; She became Chief Legal Officer for Tercica, a member company of Ipsen Pharmaceutical. In 2011, Laura decided to get off the corporate roller coaster to take more time for her family and friends. Thus, she worked the last seven years or as a contract attorney to the pharmaceutical industry, her last engagement over the last few years being with Aimmune Corp. Laura met her future husband, David Sciarrino in Redwood City in October 1997 at the Essential Experience, a Self Help retreat. Two years later, on May 29, 1999, Laura and David were married and lived a full, happy and rich life together for the next twenty plus years. While the wonderful events we shared are too numerous to count, it was her love and devotion of her family that drove her, and was her passion. In 2003, Laura and David welcomed their twin sons Devin and Marc into the world on July 15th, the greatest highlight of their life together. Laura was able to enjoy her "semi-retired" life for several years at her beautiful home nestled in the foothills of South Auburn, where the family moved from the Bay Area in 2012. In addition to her loving family, Laura is survived by her parents, Burt and Faye (and Daniel) many extended family and friends, two dogs, two cats and numerous chickens. Laura was a huge part of all our lives, and we will miss her forever into the future.
