Denio's Farmers Market open all week with no entry fee

On Friday, Denio's Farmers Market and Swap Meet in Roseville announced that only the farmers market will be open to the public. On Thursday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered all Californians to shelter in place to stop the spread of COVID-19. In Thursday's order, the state outlined "essential businesses" that could continue to operate, such as grocery stores and farmers markets, because they are food providers. "We will only have our farmers market open for individuals to come out and shop and get their food," Denio's Chief Operations Officer Eric Denio said in a Facebook video on Friday. "From our family to yours, we want you to remain safe and we hope the best for whatever you are going through right now." Denio's Farmers Market has been in operation in Roseville since 1947 at 1551 Vineyard Road and four generations of the Denio family currently work there. Friday's video was accompanied by a post that stated Montiel's Wood Fired Pizza, The Pink Pagoda and a single corn dog location will be open with no seating available. On Sunday, Denio's posted again on Facebook that the Farmers Market would be open all week until further notice and would not charge an entry fee. Eric Denio told Gold Country Media Monday that about 20 vendors were working in the produce area as many of the other vendors work weekly jobs. "You'll find certain vendors that are open and then you have to walk a little bit of a ways to get to the other vendors, so really, the way it is set up is a perfect scenario for a situation like this," said Denio, referring to the need to practice social distancing. Denio also said that customers are asked not to handle any food or products that they do not intend on buying. According to Denio, a very small number of vendors have some general grocery products such as toiletries and the amount customers can buy is limited. "Right now, on a very very small scale, I have vendors that have like general grocery store products and I have a small vendor that has more toiletries and cleaning solutions," Denio said. "All of the vendors I have talked to have been wonderful about limiting the quantities and I think that is the right thing to do at a time like this." The market's hours will still be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. "We are going to take it week by week at this point," Denio said. "So we are going to do this seven days and if there is a response from the general public that they are coming in and buying, then we want to continue to do this for as long as possible."
