In pictures: Socially-distanced Star Spangled Drive-In event sells out

When the Folsom Chamber of Commerce is presented with a challenge, it steps up to the plate. Friday night illustrated just that as the socially-distanced Star Spangled Drive In event was a success in difficult times. The Folsom Pro Rodeo postponement left Folsom without its traditional community fireworks show this year, until two weeks ago when it was announced that a Star-Spangled Drive-In event would be held at Folsom Ranch. The event sold out quickly and provided some much-needed relief for cooped-up families. "There were so many amazing sponsors, volunteers and community leaders that worked to make this event possible and we appreciate each effort," said Joe Gagliardi, CEO of the Folsom Chamber of Commerce. "It brought our campaign, #FolsomStrongerTogether, to a whole new level." A total of 1,250 tickets were sold. One ticket was allowed per vehicle, each filled with eager families. The instructions were to park cars at least six feet apart and only interact with your family. Masks were suggested but not required. "It's not weird actually. I feel like it's right with what's going on right now and it kind of gives us the ability to still do something, get out," said attendee Nicole Kneppel. Patrons decorated their cars with American flags, pinwheels and banners and visited with one another from a distance. For those who could not make it, the event was also broadcast live on local television. The Folsom Chamber of Commerce continues to work on plans to reschedule the Folsom Pro Rodeo this fall, pending changes in COVID-19 restrictions.
