Look, on the overpass: Auburn man takes 'full credit' for wave of freeway Trump rallies

You may not know the name Paul Gilbert, but chances are you've noticed him recently – in his hometown of Auburn or on an overpass elsewhere in Placer County with a group of people known on Facebook as Union Patriots waving American flags and flags supporting President Donald Trump. "There's a whole movement of us trying to make this happen," says Gilbert, a lifelong Auburn resident, adding Tuesday's gathering on the Maple Street overpass was his 11th such rally since generating the idea four months ago. "I will take full credit," he says. A crowd of 30-50 people typically attend, waving their flags as car and – much louder – big-rig horns blare on their way by. "This is constant, not only here but on (Highway) 65, I-5, I-80. It makes a huge impact," Gilbert says, adding he planned to increase the rallies to two per week in the final days before the election. While not everyone agrees with their choice for president, Gilbert says the ratio of smiles to middle fingers is 10-to-1, just before a man in a truck, with incredible timing cruises through the overpass with a middle finger out the window.
