Frederick George Jacobs 10/13/1939 - 2/13/2021

Frederick George Jacobs made his final flight check and departed for the final time on February 13, 2021 after a long battle with Type 2 Diabetes and kidney failure. Fred was born in Newport Washington October 13, 1939. After his father's return from WWII, George Jacobs (Navy), who battled in the Pacific Region, the family relocated to California, where they permanently settled in Roseville, California with Fred's father George Jacobs working for Makarios Chevrolet and his mother, Dorothea Jacobs working for the Roseville Telephone Company. After graduating from Roseville High School, Fred enjoyed racing hard tops at the Roseville Speedway progressing as a driver for Henry (Sunny) Thienes, a super modified race team. He raced at many California tracks in the early 1960s. Fred also worked at Lambert Funeral Home driving the hearse and was also a licensed ambulance driver. He also drove for a tow truck company and became a licensed mechanic. In 1966, Fred relocated with his daughter Joanna to the Bay Area where he began his career at Pan American World Airways. At work Fred was known as Jake, Fred worked in San Francisco, Seattle and Miami as an A & P Mechanic until 1991 when Pan Am ceased its operations. Thereafter, Fred bought a motorhome and traveled throughout the United States with his second wife Barbara while working for Kittie Hawk Air Cargo until he retired in 2002. Fred was unconventional and had an adventurous soul, he always gravitated to the extreme side of speed and met so many exciting people that shared his passions. Fred enjoyed great conversations with those he encountered during his lifetime, his stories about these people and his adventures will be missed. He and Barbara loved aviation and flying their Piper turbo twin engine Comanche out of Sonoma County Airport and thereafter North Perry Airport in Broward County, Florida. Both Fred and Barbara flew many hours in several different aircraft. Fred enjoyed the Reno Air Races and was active throughout the 1970s and 1980s supporting his friends who raced in the unlimited class. Throughout Fred's life he continued to enjoy auto racing from midgets to Nascar. Many Saturday nights he would take his daughter to one of the many dirt tracks in California where the two would enjoy the race late into the night and then he would drive home regardless of the distance it was from home. Fred just liked to drive or fly, he was always on the move. Fred is survived by his daughter Joanna Reams, son-in-law Dennis Reams, granddaughter Janel Reams, brother Scott Jacobs, sister-in-law Eileen Jacobs, sister Kerry Beebe, brother in-law Bruce and nephews Brandon Beebe and Brent Beebe. Fred was widowed twice, Elsie A. Jones Jacobs (1964) and Barbara Cowen Jacobs (2001).Fred's ashes will be interred during the summer months in Priest River Idaho and once Covid-19 travel restrictions are lifted.
