Lincoln family performs on Game of Talents

A Lincoln family got its chance to shine on a national TV stage with a family-shared talent. Mark Nash and his daughters, Olivia, 14, and Julianna, 13, performed on Fox's "Game of Talents" that was airing Wednesday after press time. The show has contestants win money for correctly guessing a performer's talent before they actually perform it. The Nashes performed their longtime family passion of baton twirling. Mark and Ella Nash own Nash Twirling Academy in Lincoln and are veterans of several national and world championship twirling competitions. They introduced their daughters to twirling at a young age. "I feel so lucky that they like it on their own and are motivated to practice," Mark Nash said. "It's really special. It makes it more of a family affair." The Nash family auditioned for "Game of Talents" in hopes of earning national recognition for their abilities. "I've always wanted to be a star singer or actress ever since I was a small girl," said Olivia Nash, a Western Sierra Collegiate Academy freshman. "This was a great opportunity for me to get my name out there. Usually when you audition for things, you don't hear back, so we didn't expect anything. So, when they called us to be on the show, it was super exciting." The family members filmed their portion of the show in Los Angeles in November and were escorted around the big city. "We took a little walk and saw this huge building and thought, 'That's a super cool building. We should go in someday and see what's in there,' " said Julianna Nash, a Western Sierra Collegiate Academy seventh-grader. "The next day, our car sent us to that exact same building (for the show)." The Nashes were allowed to choreograph their performance with slight tweaks from the production crew. Overall, they said, it was a fun experience. "I loved being on set and being around so much talent," Olivia Nash said. "The butterflies building up in my stomach is a feeling I love very much." Julianna Nash echoed her sister's sentiments and had a gift for the show's host, Wayne Brady. "I thought everybody was really nice, the makeup people, the hair people, the costume people," Julianna said. "And Wayne Brady was super cool, too. I gave him a baton." Mark Nash had a moment to chat with Brady on set. "He told us that he really valued that we were able to do something as a family," Mark Nash said, "which was super cool."
