Auburn bank robbery suspect arrested in El Dorado County

The Placer County Sheriff's Office announced Saturday that Austin Shane Brown, 33, of Georgetown was arrested in connection with the May 21 Bank of the West robbery in Auburn. A male suspect walked into the bank in the 13400 block of Lincoln Way on Friday afternoon and used a note to demand money from a teller, the Sheriff's Office reported. The suspect left after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash and was reported to have driven a gold 1990s Saturn two-door coupe with tinted windows. The Sheriff's Office posted a be-on-the-lookout alert on its Facebook page asking anyone who saw the suspect to call 911. Brown's vehicle was located by an El Dorado County Sheriff's deputy around 10:30 p.m. Friday traveling on Highway 193 in Kelsey, the Sheriff's Office reported. Brown was then arrested by Placer County Sheriff's detectives. Brown was booked into the Auburn Main Jail on Saturday for a felony charge of robbery. Brown remained in custody Friday with bail set at $250,000.
