Jack E. Howard 2/25/1931 - 7/1/2021

Jack was born in California and passed away peacefully in his sleep in Lincoln on July 1, 2021 at the age of 90. Jack's parents were Charles and Doris (Schellhous) Howard. Jack was a descendant of pioneer families that came to California during the Gold Rush years and settled in Siskiyou and Placer Counties. His grandfather was Sheriff in Siskiyou Co. for several years. Jack spent his early years in Yreka and moved to Roseville at age 4 with his mother and brother Chuck.. He grew up in Roseville, attending local elementary schools and graduating from Roseville High School in the Class of 1949. Jack married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Edgar, in 1951. He was drafted a few months later and served in the Army in Alaska during the Korean Way. After his discharge the couple moved to Oakland and Jack attended the California College of the Arts, earning a Masters Degree in Fine Arts and a teaching credential in 1959. Jack was a life long educator. He began his teaching career in Walnut Creek as the art teacher in the first year of Del Valle High School. He remained there until 1968 when he accepted a position in Sacramento City Unified School District as the Art Curriculum Specialist. He retired from SCUSD in 1990 after serving in a variety of positions. When he retired, he had been a Vice Principal at Sacramento High School for 19 years. In the early years of retirement, Jack and Joyce enjoyed road trips, especially to the western National Parks, Monterey and Palm Springs, golfing adventures and biannual trips to Hawaii. He pursued his art through photography. Time spent with the family was always treasured. He enjoyed fly fishing, especially with his brothers-in-law Don and Johnny and golfing with his nephews and golf buddies. When these activities became too physically difficult, he enjoyed reading, music, older movies, eating out and searching for the best hamburger. Jack will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Joyce, and the Edgar family that became his in every way: Johnny and Pat Edgar, Susan (Chuck) Nelson, Pamela Trice, Mike (Sherrie) Edgar, Sher Edgar, Shelly (Tom) Mekeel, Nancy Edgar, Don (Nancy J.), EdgarJr., David Edgar, Rick (Jill) Edgar, Katie Edgar, Ashley (Kevin) Haupt and Brian Haupt. He is also survived by Chuck's sons Michael, David and Glenn and their families , many cousins, other extended family and many friends. Jack was predeceased by his brother Chuck Howard and his brother-in-law Don Edgar. As per Jack's wishes, no services will be held.
