Bonnie London a liaison for Loomis residents

When the London family moved to Loomis from Sacramento in 2015, it didn't take long for Bonnie London to become immersed in a local cause. "That was when the county was needing to close down the Loomis library branch," she said. "I didn't want to lose the library so I jumped in. It was so fulfilling to see the community rally around and problem solve and come up with a solution to keep the library." Now as a member of the Loomis Planning Commission, appointed by Councilwoman Jan Clark-Crets in 2018, she's helping formulate the General Plan update. "What I love about (serving on the Planning Commission) is the Town Council sets policy for goals and objectives," London said. "The Planning Commission is where the rubber meets the road for these policies. You have to dig into the details and look at the fine print to make sure projects are consistent with the General Plan and achieve the goals and objectives that've been set. My role is also to represent the people of the town. Town staff and consultants have planning, land use and policy expertise. My role is not to do their job but work with them and be a liaison for the community so our residents can be better served." COVID-19 hit as the project was getting underway, but progress is moving forward. "It made the initial launch kind of buried in all the other things everyone was trying to figure out, such as educating kids at home, financial security, health and everything shutting down for periods at a time," she said. As the update effort proceeds, London encourages residents to get involved by visiting the town's website to keep up to date, attending the meetings or watching them online and contacting Town Council, Planning Commission members or the town staff to provide input and views. "It's likely the most important thing I will ever contribute to this town," London said. "The last time we did a General Plan update was 20 years ago, and it may be another 20 years before we do it again. I think this is an extremely important time because there's so much growth and development taking place in Placer and the Sacramento region. Our General Plan is the most important document to guide how we grow and develop so it's important we do this update well." Clark-Crets describes London as "one of the most thoughtful, intelligent and authentic people I am blessed to know," who "works incredibly hard not only as a Planning Commission member but as vice chair of at least eight General Plan sub-committees." "Loomis is most fortunate to have someone of her caliber on our Planning Commission," Clark-Crets told Gold Country Media. "Bonnie is a nurse and having a scientific yet nurturing mindset is a wonderful asset to bring to the table. As I was contemplating my pick for Planning Commissioner, she came to my mind because of her incredible civic-mindedness, love for the town and great intellect. Having served on the Planning Commission myself, I knew she would be perfect in that role due to her overall genuine concern for Loomis and her strong desire to do the best she can in all her endeavors." London has a passion for volunteerism. She's on the board of Placer Community Foundation, serving as secretary, and she works with Invest Health, a health-education nonprofit organization in Roseville. She is married to trauma surgeon Jason London and the couple has two children at home, a son, 14, and daughter, 12. There are also two grown children. "We like to hike. We love the outdoors," London said. "I love reading everything. I have a book club and wonderful friends so it's fun getting together with my friends and discussing books." For London, Loomis is a very special place to live. "I love the rich history and appreciate learning more about the people and cultures who helped shape the region," London said. "I also love the way people really care about our community."
