Colfax Railroad Days: An authentic California experience

Experience Colfax Railroad Days in the heart of historic Colfax on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 18-19. Railroad Days brings together great Old West entertainment, railroad models and plenty of outdoor family friendly fun. Railroad history runs deep in the rural town of Colfax, located just off Interstate 80. Colfax was named for Schuyler Colfax, Speaker of the House of Representatives and great advocate of the First Transcontinental Railroad in 1865. Expect to find dozens of model trains, big trains, Lego trains, trains to ride through town and all things railroad to explore with family and friends. There will be an 1840s reenactment camp with lots of participatory activities for kids of all ages along with street and food vendors. Experience living history in a small-town setting with many characters in costume, including Old West performances by the Black Flag Gang and a Saturday Street Dance with the Howlin' Alan Band. The Black Flag Gang includes more than 20 performers – from gunslingers to the lovely dancing saloon girls Can Can du Fromage. They will stage train robberies, a juggling ring, dance performances and many reenactments throughout Saturday and Sunday. Check out their Pickled Armadillo Saloon, set up on the wrong side of the tracks in downtown Colfax as well as their stage, with bar proceeds going to charity. Howlin' Alan has been setting audiences jamming throughout the north state with rock and country western tunes, so bring your dancing shoes and plan on staying for the fun of an outdoor street dance Saturday evening.
