3-sport sisters: Bear River junior Kaylee and freshman Aly Vieira won't stop after volleyball

Bear River High School's volleyball team has been led this season by the dynamic duo of Kaylee Vieira and her little sister Aly. The Bruins are undefeated in Pioneer Valley League play and have won 10 of their last 12 matches. Junior Kaylee Vieira has been dominant with 187 kills and 25 aces. This is Kaylee's second varsity season. Aly has been one of the biggest pieces to the Bear River squad with 369 assists and 22 aces. The most impressive part? Aly is just a freshman. In fact, she didn't play volleyball competitively until this year. Asked how she was able to come into the sport and contribute right away, Aly was humble and stated she was just having fun with it. The sisters feel the chemistry they have on and off the court has been a key factor to the team's strong performance. "I absolutely love being with her. It's just amazing. Her coming in as a freshman on varsity. It's just, it's just unreal. I just love her ... it's awesome," Kaylee said about playing with her sister. "I love it so much. I mean, Kaylee and I are so good together. And I love setting her up and her just slamming it down all the time. It's been fun," Aly said. Volleyball isn't the only sport the Vieira sisters excel at. Kaylee and Aly are members of the girls basketball and softball teams. Kaylee has been a varsity basketball and softball player since her freshman year, and the expectation around the school is that Aly will join her this year. "Volleyball isn't even Aly's best sport," said Bear River volleyball coach Matt MacDonald. "I fully expect her to be a part of the varsity basketball team this season." "Yeah, basketball is my favorite. I've been playing it for a while, too," Aly said. "Volleyball, I'm close to it, but I've never really played it. Softball, I took a break from it for a while, got burned out, and I'm going to start it up as a freshman." Last year provided a challenge for Kaylee with all three sports happening at the same time, but instead of picking one, she decided to do all three. "I did school and then I just did all three, and I just tried to fit it in through my schedule," Kaylee said nonchalantly about balancing three sports and a full class schedule. Despite the heavy workload of school and sports, the Vieira sisters have no problem keeping their grades up. "Unbelievably high-character kids, hard-working kids, kids that you want to embody your program," MacDonald said. "They're great in the classroom. They're great on campus, they play multiple sports, but they're the types of kids that go about their business in an incredibly humble way and ... just love their teammates to death and want to keep getting better and love each other. We're so excited to have them for a couple more years."
