Emily Litherland finishes fourth in FVL while Gracie Schultz earns All-League honors

The Lincoln High girls' golf team concluded their regular season with a win against Oakmont High last Thursday at Diamond Oaks Golf Course, making their final record 7-5. "Once the routine and expectations of practice were established, the team became more unified and started to really develop their individual skills," coach Daniella Solley said. "Establishing daily intentions for practice and small goals for each match really helped each player improve as the season went on." Both teams had a team score of 300 at last Thursday's match and it came down to the sixth player on each team to break the tie. Sophomore Grace Landry's 66 beat the Vikings' score and the Zebras were victorious. Senior Emily Litherland and junior Brighten Youmans tied for the low score with a 57, Youmans' lowest nine-hole score of the season. The Zebras finished fourth out of seven teams in the Foothill Valley League and while they failed to qualify as a team for the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs, three individual Lady Zebras advanced to the divisional round. Litherland came in fourth-place, achieving All-League honors, and will play at Paradise Valley Golf Course in Fairfield on Monday with fellow senior Madison Cummings and sophomore Isabella Raper. "It feels great to finish Top 5 and make it to the playoffs," Litherland said. "I watched some solid players qualify when I was just starting out with golf and never thought I would be in the same position one day." Cummings shot a 62 while Raper fired a 63 in their match last Thursday. They finished 15th and 16th in the Foothill Valley League, respectively. "For the three who are going on to Divisionals, my goal is for them to have confidence in their abilities, remember the three-hole goal, get those lag putts close and push the easy button to avoid compounded errors," Solley said. "Otherwise, be positive, proud and have fun!" Lincoln High played at Ancil Hoffman for their final 18-hole league tournament on Monday prior to their match with Oakmont High and shot a team score of 600, finishing fourth in treacherous winds. Twelve Bridges High School Twelve Bridges High School's Raging Rhinos finished fourth out of six teams at their final 18-hole Pioneer Valley League tournament at Peach Tree Golf and Country Club on Monday. Twelve Bridges shot 589, 57 strokes better than their score at the first 18-hole tournament but four strokes behind Marysville High. The low score for the Rhinos came from sophomore Gracie Schultz, who shot a 99, the seventh lowest overall in the tournament. Schultz finished in sixth-place in the overall individual point total, earning All-League honors. She, along with freshman Aubrey Crossland, has qualified for the Division V tournament and will play at Yolo Fliers Club in Woodland on Monday. Twelve Bridges High finished in fourth-place in league play with five wins on the season.
