Placer Supes approve grant application for Yankee Jims recreational improvements

The Placer County Board of Supervisors provided approval for the department of Public Works to submit an application for grant funding for recreational improvements near Yankee Jims Road. According to the staff report, the funding will be provided through the Rural Recreation and Tourism (RRT) Program, which provides funding to create new recreation opportunities within rural communities to support health-related and economic goals, through Proposition 68. The design, environmental and right-of-way processes are underway for the Yankee Jims Road at North Fork American River Bridge Replacement Project. The staff report notes there is an opportunity near the project site to create a recreational area, the Yankee Jims Responsive Recreational Improvements. The project will be funded solely by the RRT Program and does not require the county to provide any matching funds. According to the staff report, the improvements will provide access for rafters and hikers to the North Fork American River and Indian Creek Trail. Improvements include: A graded gravel parking lot for 30 parking spaces. An Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible picnic table, which will overlook the river. A shade structure over the picnic table. A wood stairway to the river/creek confluence for large rafts. Two interpretive signs that will describe the cultural, biological and historic importance of the area.
