Auburn man to be sentenced Dec. 22 for 2019 library stabbing

The Placer County District Attorney's Office reported Monday that Opada Joseph Opada, 35, of Auburn is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday, Dec. 22, for a 2019 stabbing at the Auburn Public Library. Opada was convicted Nov. 18 of premeditated attempted murder, causing great bodily harm, use of a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon. On Dec. 10, 2019, Opada stabbed a man sitting at a computer table in the neck and stomach, according to a 2019 Auburn Journal report. Opada also stabbed a second victim on the side of the head as Opada ran out of the library. The weapon was reported as a small pen knife. Following a nine-hour manhunt, Opada was located and arrested in the 200 block of Carolyn Street in Auburn, about 1.5 miles south of the Auburn Public Library. According to the 2019 report, Opada gave himself up to the police. According to the online In Custody Report, Opada remains in custody at the South Placer Jail and is ineligible for bail. Opada will be sentenced at 2:30 p.m. in Department 31 at the Placer County Superior Court, 10820 Justice Center Drive, in Roseville. According to the District Attorney's Office, the sentencing will be open to the public.
