Karen Maria (Bernardo) Gutierrez 1956 - 2021

On Thursday, December 16, 2021, Karen Maria (Bernardo) Gutierrez, loving wife, mother, sister, Aunt, and friend, passed away surrounded by her family, at age 65. Karen was born in Mill Valley, California, to Peter and Marguerite Bernardo. Karen and her devoted husband of 37 years, Alvaro Gutierrez, made their home in Auburn, California where they raised their daughter, Jessica, and remained living. There, alongside her husband, Karen ran their family landscaping business for nearly 40 years. Over her life she has built countless relationships with people in her community and was a pillar for her family. She was known for her humor and loving personality. Karen had a strong devotion to her faith and developed a love of travel. She and Alvaro took many trips to beautiful places, creating countless cherished memories. Karen was preceded in death by her father, Peter, her mother, Marguerite, her brothers Michael and Sam and her daughter, Jessica. She is survived by her husband, Alvaro, her four sisters, Beverly (Doug Downing) Bernardo, Pamela (Troy) Mowry, Renee Bernardo, and Donna (John) Harcus, in addition to her ten nephews, Antonio (Candice) Salas, Joseph Salas, Charles (Summer) Woods, Dennis (Mabel) Bernardo, Mark (Tina) Bernardo, Jeffrey (Christine) Ravazza, Charlie (Katie) Ravazza, David Bernardo, Murphy Seim, Pete Bernardo and her four nieces, Vanessa (Yianni Kassotakis) Salas, Tabitha (Jeffrey) Brothers, Kimberly Bernardo and Deborah Boodell as well as their respective children and her many nephews and nieces from her husband's side. Karen was also a proud Comadre and Madrina to many people who loved her dearly. She will be deeply missed. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church located at 1162 Lincoln Way, Auburn, CA 95603 on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at 6 o'clock in the evening.
