Some 2022 high school football schedules released

Multiple high schools in the south Placer area have finalized their football schedules for the fall 2022 season and this week, we wanted to take a look at some of the matchups to look forward to for next fall. Sierra Foothill League The Rocklin Thunder is the defending champion in the Sierra Foothill League, following a 12-1 2021 season. The Thunder is preparing to have their first two games on the road as their track and turf are being redone at the football stadium. The Thunder will open their season on Aug. 19 away against Turlock. Their first home game will be on Sept. 2 against Capital Christian, a team that Rocklin defeated 43-14 in 2021. Rocklin will be a part of the 2022 Honor Bowl, an annual showcase that features some of the best teams in Northern and Southern California. The Honor Bowl started at Del Oro High School and the Honor Group mission is to educate athletes and coaches about patriotism while also raising money for wounded veterans. This year, the two-day event will be hosted by Oak Ridge High School on Sept. 9 and Sept. 10. The Thunder will have their bye week on Sept. 23. The Granite Bay Grizzlies were second in league play last season and are looking to build off of that performance when they start competition against Elk Grove on Aug. 19. They will follow that up with two straight home games against Davis and Vista Del Lago before playing in the Honor Bowl on Sept. 9 against Spanish Springs. The Grizzlies will finish non-league action against Vacaville on Sept. 16, a team they defeated 14-9 in 2021, before having their bye week on Sept. 23. Del Oro will open the season with two straight home games against Inderkum and Del Campo on Aug. 19 and Aug. 26 before traveling to face Clayton Valley Charter on Sept. 2. The Golden Eagles defeated the Ugly Eagles 26-20 in their contest in 2021. Del Oro plays River Valley on Sept. 9 and will play their homecoming game on Sept. 16 against Menlo-Atherton, which won the Peninsula-Bay League last season. Their bye week is Sept. 23 before opening Sierra Foothill League competition with Granite Bay on Sept. 30. Whitney begins their season with a rematch against Antelope, a team that the Wildcats lost 20-14 in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs in 2021. Their home opener is against Woodcreek on Aug. 26 before traveling to Clovis on Sept. 2. Whitney lost 27-7 against Clovis in last season's contest. They remain on the road on Sept. 9 taking on Heritage and will return home for their final non-league game against Chico on Sept. 16. Following their bye week on Sept. 23, the Wildcats open Sierra Foothill League play at home for the Quarry Bowl against Rocklin. Capital Valley Conference The Woodcreek Timberwolves finished the 2021 season 7-4, their best record since 2018, and hopes to build off of that success in 2022. The season begins against Franklin at home on Aug. 19 before traveling to Whitney on Aug. 26. They will then travel to Grass Valley to play Nevada Union on Sept. 2 and will have a bye the following week. The Timberwolves return home on Sept. 16 to play the reigning Foothill Valley League champion, the Lincoln Fighting Zebras, to finish non-league competition. Woodcreek begins Capital Valley Conference play on Sept. 23 against Inderkum. Roseville High will start the 2022 season at home against Oakmont on Aug. 19 and then hit the road for two straight weeks against Placer on Aug. 26 and Laguna Creek on Sept. 2. They return home on Sept. 9 to play Lincoln before starting league action at Antelope on Sept. 16. Their bye week will be on Sept. 30. Foothill Valley League The West Park Panthers will compete in the Foothill Valley League for the first time in 2022 after winning the Greater Sacramento League last season in their first year as a varsity program. There will likely be high expectations and the Panthers will have to deliver as they face some very competitive teams on their schedule. They begin at home against Laguna Creek on Aug. 19 and will have an early bye week on Aug. 26. Pleasant Grove is the first team that West Park will play following their bye week on the road. The Panthers then return home for two straight games against Tokay on Sept. 9 and Rodriguez on Sept. 16 before finishing non-league action away at Chico on Sept. 23. League competition will start at home against Oakmont on Sept. 30. One of the most anticipating league matchups is their final game on the road against Lincoln, the 2021 Foothill Valley League champion, on Oct. 28. Another is the week prior on Oct. 21 at home against Placer, a team that the Panthers lost to 63-28 on the road in the first round of section playoffs.
