Rhinos boys' and girls' soccer finishes inaugural season undefeated in league play

In their inaugural season at Twelve Bridges High School, the boys' and girls' Raging Rhinos soccer teams finished undefeated in the Pioneer Valley League. While the Lady Rhinos only played four league games and 10 games overall due to multiple cancellations, they outscored their opponents 66-3 and 60-0 in league competition. They ended the season with a dominating 14-0 win against Colfax on Jan. 31 as freshman Yulisa Reyes scored five goals. Reyes was the leading scorer for Twelve Bridges High with 19 goals and sophomore Kelsey Bartlett was second with 12 goals and 12 assists. "I'd say working as a team and working on possession at practice helped us a lot on knowing how to get forward together," Reyes said. "My biggest goal for the Rhinos is to bring out college recruiters, get better as a team and make it to the playoffs." The Twelve Bridges High girls competed with teams outside of the Pioneer Valley League, such as Rocklin, Oakmont and Rio Linda, shutting out all three opposing squads. They played another game against Rocklin that ended in a 1-1 draw and also drew 2-2 against Whitney early in the season. "Their performance was unbelievable and makes me very excited to see what they will do next season," coach Victor Quiroz said. "My main concern was that due to the quality of the games, we will get bad habits but we didn't as the girls took every game seriously and worked on every aspect that I asked, which will prepare us for next year at the varsity level." Boys finish strong against Lindhurst The Rhinos boys' team also had a great season that concluded with an 8-0 win, their biggest of the year, against Lindhurst last Thursday. Sophomores Mason Starbuck and Elijah Noll both scored twice against the Blazers, along with Brody Kress and brothers Simon and Cire Hinson. Noll played the first 60 minutes of the game as goalkeeper before exiting and returning as a striker, scoring two goals in the span of six minutes. "It's really fun to score and I haven't done so since the first couple of games," Noll said. The Twelve Bridges boys had an overall record of 13-4-2 with all draws and losses coming in non-league action. They also had four wins in non-league competition against West Park, Whitney and Antelope. The Rhinos outscored their Pioneer Valley League opponents 30-5. "I'm really happy about the development and the boys have really grown together as a group while individually improving," coach John Vieira said. "We're really happy with the effort and I'm looking forward to the growth of the program." Members from both Twelve Bridges teams are excited for their first season as a varsity program in 2022-23.
