Fox eager to build lacrosse program at Folsom High

Jamie Fox started the Vista del Lago girls' lacrosse program and coached their five seasons, his last season a year ago just prior to his daughter graduating from the school. Rather than stay with the program he built, Fox decided to jump ship to Folsom High to start their girls' lacrosse program. "I want to grow the sport. I want to teach new players the sport, so I decided to come over to start the Folsom program," Fox said. Fox has 40th players in the program, between the varsity and junior varsity teams and he said only about 10 of those players have played lacrosse before. Luckily for Fox, he knows how to start a program because he had just done it at Vista, although he says he's much more wise now. "When I was at Vista I didn't know what I was doing; it was only my second year of coaching," Fox admits. "We're going to establish the foundation of the program, the bare bones of the program. We're going to nail down the basics of the sports: throwing, catching ground balls and cradling. Little by little, we're going to improve on those areas. Then were going to start scoring goals and then we're going to win some games. Right now I just want to bring the sport to Folsom High and grow the sport." At the team's first home game Wednesday, and second game overall, the Bulldogs faired quite well in a 10-5 victory against Rocklin. Two days earlier, they lost by the same score to Bella Vista. Ally Overmyer, clearly one of the 10 players in the program who has played the game before this season, had a magnificent game for the Bulldogs, as she scored seven of the team's 10 goals. Also scoring were Gabby Gibson, Angelica Toliao, Vivian Hermansen. Madelynn Angell was strong in goal, as she held the Thunder to five goals. The girls newest to the game always show the most improvement earlier, and then it plateaus, according to Fox. In terms of team success, Fox isn't concerned with that so much. "We're not thinking playoffs or anything like that," Fox said. "Half of my players are new. We're not worried about the scoreboard. We're just going to take it one game at a time. Each girl has their own personal goal that they want to reach. My biggest rule is I want 100 percent effort when they step on that field." &emsp;&emsp;
