Call for cooks: 5th All American Rib Cookoff is Aug. 27 in Auburn

It's back and better than ever. Event organizers are looking for interested cook teams to take part in the fifth All American Rib Cookoff on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Recreation Park in Auburn. Whether you are a professional chef, backyard barbecuer or just want to grab a group of friends and have a good time, this is the event for you. It doesn't matter if you are an amateur or professional, your team has a chance to win; it's all about the tastiest ribs. The Placer Sheriff team took home the honor last year, as all teams will vie for the People's Choice Trophy given to the team with most votes for best-tasting ribs. "We are looking forward to hosting our past supporting cook teams as well as newcomer teams," said Sheryl Petersen, one of the cookoff organizers. This year's cookoff will benefit the local nonprofit charities of Crime Victims United, ARD Youth Assistance, Placer County Sheriff Explorers, Gold Country Rodeo Queens, Gold Country Young Life, the Samantha Jacks Foundation and Grace House. In addition to cooking and tasting ribs, the event will include live music, a kids' zone, beer garden and vendors.
