Welcome to adulthood: Valley Christian Academy's Meyers signs National Letter of Intent on 18th birthday

Adulthood couldn't be sweeter for Valley Christian Academy senior Brady Meyers who, on his 18th birthday March 25, signed his National Letter of Intent to play college football at the Roseville campus church building. "It's really a surreal moment and something that I've been looking forward to since I was a little kid," Meyers said. Meyers earned a $20,000 scholarship to continue his athletic career at Campbellsville University in Kentucky, which is a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics school. He is the third Valley Christian Academy football player to earn a scholarship to play the sport. The Campbellsville University Tigers have struggled recently as their last winning season was in 2017 but Meyers hopes to help turn that around as he led Valley Christian Academy to their first four-win season since 2008 last fall. He totaled 950 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns for the Lions, including a six-touchdown performance in the season finale against Western Sierra Collegiate Academy. Meyers also played football his freshman and sophomore years, but his senior year was what earned him the Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League's Offensive Player of the Year award. "I knew that since I didn't get a junior year, I wanted to show everyone in my senior year that I could play and I think that's what I did," Meyers said. He finished 14th in the Sac-Joaquin Section in receiving yards and tied for sixth in receiving touchdowns. Meyers only played seven games due to a left knee injury he suffered from mid-season. "He is just an exceptional athlete who kept working at his craft and kept getting better and better," Lions football coach Doug Williams said. "It was apparent that he had the skills to compete at the next level and I'm super excited he has the opportunity." Meyers received offers from other schools, such as Kentucky Christian University, but ultimately decided on Campbellsville University upon visiting the campus. The Tigers initially reached out to Meyers in December shortly after the high school football season. "I just got a different vibe from Campbellsville, the coaching staff, everyone on campus… it just seemed like a better fit and felt like home," Meyers said. Another aspect that influenced his decision was his family as they will move to Tennessee, something he knew before his senior year. Following his football season, Meyers immediately jumped into basketball and helped lead the Lions to their most wins in a season since 2011-12 including a trip to the Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals. He led the team in scoring with 11.4 points per game. "Brady developed a ton this year and without him, we don't make the run," basketball coach and athletic director Brad Gunter Jr. said. "He was the heart and soul and had defensive intensity and athleticism. Any kid that comes out of here on an academic or athletic scholarship, I take pride in every single one of them." Meyers is looking forward to the opportunity to continue playing football in college. "I'd just like to thank God and it's nice to see all of my hard work paying off," Meyers said.
