Gail Sue Mackenroth 1934 - 2022

Gail Sue Mackenroth peacefully left our earthly world on April 16, 2022, leaving a legacy of love and admiration. She was adored by her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, David Mackenroth, and cherished by her four children. She was also the beloved "Grandma Gail" to eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Gail Sue Perin was born on June 29, 1934, in Hamilton, Ohio, to Fern and Stan Perin. She had three siblings, Joan, Mark and Leslie, and attended Lemon-Monroe High School, graduating in 1952. Gail attended college at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she met David at the Christian Science Organization on campus. They married in 1955, and thus began their adventure together, which included David's service in the U.S. Marine Corps, ultimately taking them to Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA. Other travel adventures throughout their lifetime took them to many countries in Europe, Africa, and South America, as well as to New Zealand, the Galapagos Islands, the Holy Lands of the Middle East, Turkey and Greece. Gail and David raised their family mostly in Carmichael, CA, where she nurtured her children and many family pets. She loved animals, and taught her children to respect and care for all types of creatures. Besides multiple dogs and cats through the years, some other notable pets included a horse named Candy, a garter snake named Pete and an ornery rooster named Chester, whom she loved despite his disposition. She never met an animal she couldn't love! She also spent many hours volunteering at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center in Carmichael, and was President of that organization for several years. When David retired from a busy law practice in Sacramento, they moved to Newcastle, CA, and then subsequently to Auburn, CA. There she served as President of the Placer County Nature Center, and also loved to foster dogs through various organizations. Loved for her spirituality, Gail was an active member of the Christian Science church her entire life. She served in many capacities, including Sunday School teacher and church soloist. She loved to sing and play the piano. At holidays she would often accompany the family in beloved Christmas carols, with David singing by her side. She was also a talented painter and writer and prepared many delicious meals for family and friends. She was known for her amazing pies!! Gail will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for her warmth and generosity, her welcoming love of others, her gentle touch, her openness, and the way she made it so easy to give her a hug. She is survived by her husband, David, her daughter Anne Dunlap and husband Jeff, her son Scott Mackenroth, her daughter Arlene Weisstreich and husband Aric, her sister, Leslie Meyers, her grandsons, Justen and Ryan Mackenroth, Christopher MacBride, Javan and Joren Mackenroth, granddaughters Chelsea Weider, Amanda Kiser and Jessica Bearden, great granddaughter Lilianna Weider and great grandsons Alden Kiser and Stevie Bearden. She also had many beloved nieces, nephews and treasured friends, near and far! She was predeceased by her youngest son, Jason and by her parents, Fern and Stan Perin, her sister Joan Raab and her brother Mark Perin.
