Loomis Union approves school upgrades in summer

Construction season is here as the Loomis Union School District looks forward to upgrades at Loomis Basin campuses this summer. The Loomis Union School District is currently accepting bids to modernize rooms 1 and 2 at Penryn Elementary School and rooms H and I at Loomis Grammar School. The Loomis Union School District Board of Trustees was scheduled to award the contracts at a special meeting April 21 but no bids had yet come in, officials said. The school board did approve a $203,490 bid from Single Ply Inc. to re-roof Wing 200 and the Kiln Room at Placer Elementary School. DFS Flooring also won a $28,000 contract to install flooring in the Placer Elementary School cafeteria, staff workroom and food services office. The board also approved a $22,000 bid from Intec Mechanical LLC to replace thermostat systems at Loomis Grammar School. All of the projects are components of the board-approved District Maintenance Plan, according to the staff report. New district representatives In other business, the Loomis Union School District School Board chose Linda Wright to fill the Area 5 Trustee vacancy. Wright was scheduled to be sworn in at the regular meeting Thursday after press time. The Loomis Union School District also announced on April 21 that Al Frangione has accepted the senior director of facilities, maintenance and operations position, beginning in July. The district also welcomed new hires Jennifer Gish, Extended Day Program (HCP); Valeria Hernandez, district health assistant; Tracy Law, noon duty (Placer Elementary), plus certified teachers Kimberly Balderrama, Vannessa Belair, Nicolette Immers and Elizabeth McCall. Enrollment Meanwhile, the Loomis Union School District office is accepting enrollment packets for the 2021-22 school year in person, email or by U.S. mail, according to the district's webpage at https://www.loomis-usd.k12.ca.us/. Parents or guardians residing in the Loomis Union School District attendance boundary who wish to enroll a child in homeschool can visit their nearby school office for registration assistance. Loomis home-school registration packets are available online to be downloaded and completed prior to visiting the school office. Select the grade-appropriate registration packet at https://www.loomis-usd.k12.ca.us/. The cover page of each registration packet will guide parents through all the required forms necessary for enrollment in Loomis schools. Parents interested in the Loomis Union School District transitional kindergarten must ensure the student meets the age eligibility requirement, complete a transitional kindergarten registration packet and submit a complete packet to the district office. Transitional kindergarten is not offered at all Loomis Unified District schools and placement will be made based on space availability, officials said.
