Loomis Basketball Club asks for donations for 2022 season

The Loomis Basin Basketball Club, founded in 2020, is a competitive Amateur Athletic Union team that consists primarily of juniors and seniors who have already won multiple local tournaments. The club recently set up a GoFundMe page asking for donations from the local community for their 2022 season. Former Del Oro High School student-athletes, parents and current student-athletes helped form the club, including Jack Welty who serves as the head coach. Welty is a 2019 Del Oro alumnus who played basketball with the Golden Eagles, averaging 17.3 points per game in his senior season. Welty went on to play a season at Bethel College, helping lead the Threshers to a 20-12 record before transferring back home to Sierra College. "At Bethel, I had no sense of direction and didn't feel like I was doing enough and when I got back, these kids wanted an opportunity to play on a team that didn't play favorites," Welty said. "I've always wanted to give back to the Loomis community because they treated me like family when I first came to Del Oro. Being able to coach these boys and make a difference in their lives has given me a sense of purpose that I lacked when I was at Bethel." The club team plays primarily in the Greater Sacramento area at local venues such as Hardwood Palace in Rocklin and @the Grounds in Roseville. They also travel for tournaments such as the Reno Memorial Day Tournament in which the team won the Boys 10th Level 3 Championship in 2021. In 2022, the club plans on competing in Los Angeles, Orange County and Las Vegas which will mean more traveling and more expenses. The tournament fees and travel costs, along with uniforms and other costs, is where the fundraiser proceeds will go. The fundraiser was set up on May 2 and currently has $225 of the $5,000 goal.
