Placer High School celebrates 2022 class of 'resilience' and 'moxie'

What started as a dreary morning soon turned into an energetic celebration at LeFebvre Stadium, as the class of 2022 graduated at Placer High School. The sun made its appearance as the seniors filed across the field for the school's 123rd graduation. Speeches included Principal Randy Ittner, ASB Presidents Luca Collins and Mackenzie Sexton, Senior Class President Summer Tagge and Valedictorians Addison Arsenith, Teyenna Barngrover, Ryan Frank, Kataryna Kratzchmar, Sydney Nichols, Morgan Overmiller, Kaela Pena, Weston Sellers, Rane Shim Clark and Claire Taylor. "Resilience," Ittner said. "We were in a pandemic and our students, these seniors, came back roaring. "Resilience is what this senior class will be known for, and the accomplishments you have achieved will lead you in your future endeavors." Ittner spoke of the seniors' achievements, including sports, extracurriculars and the initiation of seven clubs on campus. "I'm so proud of the class of 2022," Ittner continued. "Your class makes me realize even during a time where our country is divided that we will have leaders like you in the future. It has been an honor to be your principal." Collins noted he and his fellow graduates have moxie, as he detailed the class' determination of navigating through a new normal like meeting up with friends through a PS4 (PlayStation 4) party or having first dates via FaceTime. "It was different. It was hard. But don't forget, this class had moxie," Collins said. "As Dory says in 'Finding Nemo', 'Just keep swimming.' And that we did, Dory. In all of our personal ways, we just kept swimming through the COVID sea of uncertainty." Before walking across the stage, the graduates embraced each other, laughed during speeches and even tossed around inflated beach balls before they were confiscated by faculty. After crossing the stage, the graduates switched their tassels to the left side of their mortarboards, marking their entry into adulthood. The graduates then linked arms while standing in an arch as they sang the Placer Alma Mater, signifying the end of the ceremony and their high school careers.
