Loomis Basin Chamber of Commerce hosts leadership classes

Like other area chambers of commerce, the Loomis Basin Chamber of Commerce hosts an annual community-wide leadership course. The "Leadership Loomis" course is held over a nine-month time period. Leadership Loomis helps residents gain a better understanding of Loomis history, town governance, planning and development, according to Loomis Basin Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer Frank Udvarhely. "Each class session features presentations by leaders, educators and elected officials who teach the how and why things happen the way it does in and around Loomis," Udvarhely said. "The purpose of this class is to bring people on a leadership journey. Students learn to sharpen their public speaking skills, get an understanding of how policies and procedures are created, enforced and amended, if needed." Members also plan projects for the community's benefit. This year's class hosted a job fair at the Loomis Train Depot on May 4. Class participants learned how to coordinate vendors and build a public event. The event was successful, according to Udvarhely, with many vendors collecting from five to seven applications each at the job fair. According to Udvarhely, 13 class members helped plan the job fair, with assistance from the Loomis Town Council and school district for marketing. Approximately 100 job seekers and 15 south Placer vendors attended. Vendors included Bass Pro. Shop from Rocklin, Bach to Rock Music School, the Placer County Sheriff Mobile Command Unit, William Jessup University and Sierra College. The Loomis Leadership program teaches practical leadership skills and demonstrates how and what skills are needed in the community. "Our program provides a space for future leaders to learn and grow so they can be a qualified candidate for boards and committees in the chamber, community and beyond," Udvarhely said.
